Safe Access Ramps for Rail
The railways are vital for many disabled individuals. For those who do not own their own transport, trains provide a crucial link to local shops, amenities, and even friends and family. However, recent research has shown that disabled travellers – particularly those who use wheelchairs or mobility aids – encounter many obstacles that make their journeys far more difficult than for those who are able-bodied.
As of the 1st January 2020, all rail operators are legally required to ensure their trains are fully accessible for disabled passengers, or face a fine.

Rail Ramp Solutions
Our Portaramp rail ramps are used at numerous stations across Canada, the UK, and the EU, designed in accordance with all relevant legislation and interoperability regulations. The Portable Wheelchair Ramp range is designed to be carried aboard all common train types, or stowed on the station itself.
The integrated carry handles, and lightweight, high-strength aluminum composite design mean our ramps are easy to deploy, position, and store. Safety side details and slip resistant surfaces ensure safe usage when needed, allowing for secure passage for wheelchair or mobility scooter users.
Our ramps can be supplied in a range of standard sizes, or bespoke designed to suit any platform and train.
Safe Storage and Access for Rail Ramps
Disability ramps need to be available at a moment’s notice, especially on a busy station platform. We offer two secure storage and locking solutions for our ramps in the form of our floor-mounted Lockable Storage Device and Wall Locking Device.
The floor-mounted version is perfect for storing wheelchair ramps where no wall surface is available, such as on island platforms. Lockable, secure, and easy to access when needed, the floor-mounted version is available in two standard sizes accommodating the full product range.
Alternatively, the Wall Locking Device allows for convenient and secure storage of the ramp on platform walls. Easily accessed using a T key, the device fits easily into brackets at the top and bottom of our ramps to ensure it remains in place until needed.
